What Meditational Bliss states can illuminate about our mind in daily life..
Dear Friends,
I hope you’ve had a blessed week.
It’s been busy over here.
I’m planning to move to Malaysia in July from Japan
And let me tell you..
We have a ton of things to get rid of and prepare.
These kinds of events can be overwhelming..
But a lot of the stress and suffering we feel regarding these external events is self-created.
I try to avoid unnecessarily punishing myself these days, so..
In this case..
I’ll take my own advice:
> Do one thing
> At one time
> With all of your being
Also..
I posted my first video on Twitter - Check it out here:
(Yes I was holding the camera up with one arm - Not the most professional job!)

Ok anyway on to the meat and bones of this week’s edition.
Meditation. Bliss states. Profound peak experiences. Union.
Chances are if you’ve been praticing for a while you may have experienced something like this.
(If not - Try to develop the 5 factors that I’ll mention in a moment)
There’s a very specific set of Absorption states called the “Jhanas”
I say specific because in order to enter these states specific mental qualities must be present.
So like any experiment of value - It’s repeatable by inputting the same ingredients (or generating the same conditions).
These states are often described as “Rapture not of the Flesh”
Safe to say they feel pretty damn good then.
(If you want a close example - Imagine the best orgasm of your life x100 but instead of being draining it’s deeply healing - Like every cell in your body is being pumped full of fresh chi and is humming in perfect harmony)
This is not pleasure to be feared, but to be leaned into to support one’s awakening and make insight practice smoother, less jarring and more fruitful.
It is bliss born of letting go.
To enter first Jhana there are 5 factors (or qualities of mind) required:
1/ Applied Attention
2/ Sustained Attention
3/ Physical bliss
4/ Mental Joy
5/ One-pointed focus
Perhaps, now, you can see why I’m always drumming on about “DO ONE THING AT ONE TIME WITH ALL OF YOUR BEING”
When we apply our attention (one thing)
Sustain our attention (At one time)
And develop one-pointed focus (with all of your being)
It results in physical bliss and mental joy.
(It’s also rather productive)
Not a little either - Profound joy - Born of simply focusing and letting go.
Perhaps you have an experience of powerful flow?
In a flow state you’re starting to tap into the inherent power of the mind when it’s highly focused (while remaining completely relaxed and free of attachment)
And this leads me to the point of this week’s newsletter:
We spend so much of our lives in a scattered mental state full of conflicting intentions.
The result is disharmony, lack and dissatisfaction.
This is especially true in today’s age where there are so many distractions that make our focus ping-pong around endlessly (leaving us feeling exhausted).
Satisfaction can be found in letting go, developing a collected and unified state of mind.
Honing this is of the utmost importance if you want to find:
Satisfaction
Flow
Joy
In your daily activities (no matter how great or small)
Consider this:
Keep in mind..
Like any skill - It requires:
Time X Consistency = Profound results.
I hope this illuminates the power of the collected mind..
A state which can lead to full-blown mystical experiences and beyond..
But also transmute the mundane into something profound, beautiful and flow inducing.
That’s it for this week.
Blessings to you all,
Leigh
